Message to the Cast and Production of “The (Dis)creation of Adam” show (DoA):
“DvD” is a derivative theatrical work based on your show. It is as though your show releases the energy of a nuclear bomb, and Einstein reveals the simple underlying mechanism behind it! Not E = mc2 but DvD!
Comments on the Poster
- Replacing “Picadeiro” with 4HH3+X2G would have eliminated 20 minutes of serious leg pain for one of your audience wandering unnecessarily around Fatacil looking for the show.
- Adding a QR code, to the poster, linked to a web page, would have helped to communicate the date changes for the show.
The DvD Show
DvD stands for Democracy vs Dictatorship.
The message of the show is contained in 3 short sentences:
- Democracy is based on Freedom Of Speech.
- Dictators MUST Destroy Freedom of Speech.
- We INVITE Dictators to Destroy Democracies when we trade with them!
DvD Stage Directions:
- The DvD show has 4 scenes all linked to Freedom of Speech.
- Freedom of Speech is depicted in 3 ways: Verbally; as Painting; and as Sculpture.
- The First scene of DvD is identical to the first scene of DoA. It depicts the transition from gestural and gutteral to verbal expression.
- The Second scene depicts Freedom of Artistic Expression through art of the Renaissance.
- Stage left, we have an art student copying the Mona Lisa on the top sheet of a flip chart. He gets half way through.
- Stage Right we have a sculpture student sculpting a live model dressed like a Buddha.
- The Third scene is introduced by sounds of an army marching to war. War Trumpets. A call to Battle.
- A soldier goes up to the art student on the left. He tears off, and tramples, the top sheet of the flip chart, revealing a blank sheet of paper.
- The soldier tears down the portrait of the Mona Lisa and tramples it.
- He unrolls a picture, and pins it up to replace the Mona lisa.
- This Picture:
- The soldier whips the art student to get him to copy the image. The art student shows the audience that he is copying by tearing off sections of the top blank sheet, gradually revealing this picture:
- The Fourth, and Final scene starts with the video projector being turned on with a blank white light. The Model of Buddha is in front of the screen so is lit up by the projector.
- This video starts 5 seconds later: The Buddhas of Bamiyan
- The model of Budda slowly, and painfully, collapses to the ground.
- The screen goes blank for 5 seconds.
- These Closing Texts appear on the screen:
- 2% of People Think. 3% of People Think they Think. 95% of People would rather die than Think.
- 2% das pessoas pensam. 3% das pessoas pensam que pensam. 95% das pessoas preferem morrer do que pensar.
- Henry Ford.
- The End
- When the audience leave the auditorium, they see two banners. One each side of the Exit. One in English, and one in Portuguese.
95% of People would rather die than Think. They Argue before they Understand.
95% das pessoas preferem morrer do que pensar. Eles discutem antes de entender.
