The Illusion of Happiness

Everything we Believe, or that we Believe In, is a Story.

A story which shapes what we strive for, convinced that if we achieve what we strive for, and then look back at that achievement, we will be in state which we called Happiness in the Story that we Originally Told Ourselves.

Our Story has flaws:

  • If Our Story only involves us, we are prone to generate the Next Desire to strive for, “which will bring us More Happiness“. The problem now is that our Next Desire tends to Eclipse the Happiness expected from achieving our Previous Desire!
  • If Our Story involves other people, it is quite likely that “Their” stories of what would make Them Happy do not align well with those of our own. How often do Parents find themselves Profoundly Unhappy when they discover that Their Stories, full of Good Intensions, and Big Sacrifices, are met with Cold Indiference, or even by Downright Hostility, by their Children!

Perhaps Our Life can be represented as an intricate Tibetan Sand Mandala which we create with Our Stories?

Normally, our Mandala is Destroyed when we have No Family or Friends left to retell Our Story.

Giving Our Story a New Life

Perhaps a way out of this conundrum is to Distance Ourselves enough from Our Stories to Destroy Them on a Regular Basis, so we can actually Relish what we have achieved TODAY!
